Allah Almighty, the Most Gracious, and the Most Merciful, created man in the most beautiful way, equipped him with superior abilities, and, by making him the addressee of the divine appeal, honored him, and loaded responsibilities on him. Allah did not leave him alone in this worldly life, and sent prophets to him, as His divine favor and kindness, in order to remove him from the darkness of disbelief and direct them to the light of faith and good morality. In existence since the first man, religion has been an existential need for man. Religion is a set of advices that teaches as a whole the life and its meaning, helps us establish the balance between the world and the Akhirah (the Hereafter), and the mind and spirit, provides inner peace to the individual, bring love and justice to the society, and transform our individual and social duties into responsibilities of worship nature. A person who tries to understand himself, the universe and the Creator, loves and is connected to Him turns towards servitude to Him and understanding the truth by following the path of the messengers of mercy sent by the Creator. Therefore, it is important that a person’s need for religion be met through proper and true knowledge. As man is the primary aim of the religion, it is highly important that religious knowledge constantly renew itself in such a way as to enlighten our life, refresh Islam’s clear message in minds and hearts, and establish a dynamic connection between theory and practice. Therefore, with the purpose of meeting the needs of our nation for becoming learned about the religion with authentic religious knowledge free of superstitions, and enlightening them about topics such as faith, worship and ethics, our Presidency has planned to publish a series called “Basic Islamic Knowledge” by taking into consideration the modern and scientific data. The third in the series and titled “My Prophet”, the book in your hand is prepared in accordance with the syllabus of the Basic Religious Knowledge taught at Diyanet Qur’an Courses. The book deals with the Prophet Muhammad’s life before prophethood, prophethood, personality and exemplary morality, and the importance he attached on knowledge, learning, and teaching. It is our greatest wish that this study be helpful to the reader. Effort is from us and success is from Allah.
