Kitap Hakkında

Dear readers, We live in an era, in which not the armies, but the images fight. Unfortunately, Muslims are among the ones who lose this fight the most. In a world where we feel the globalism increasingly, while we are dreaming that others will recognize us as we are, the negative images are not leaving us just like ghosts. Those familiar images, which we think represent us, can easily be turned against us in the world media. The headquarter of this change carries the name of a geography, which we always pursue to set a friendship: The West... This image, which gets negative day by day since 1980s, is again clinched by September 11 phenomenon. But we have a “thing” that is never affected by this image, for which Allah the Almighty says, “Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur’an and indeed, We will be its guardian.” (Hijr, 15: 9): The Qur’an... The West and the Qur’an. They look like two concepts that are not possible to stand together today. But the reality is different. Despite all the negativity, the number of people in the West who convert to Islam and see themselves as “muhtadi” are not less than the past. There are even countries where the number has increased. The most important factor that leads them to Islam is the Holy Qur’an. According to them, the Holy Qur’an is a book that describes the charm of existence, explains “why” and “how” of our existence, puts daily life in order and sets clear principles on how life should be lived. The Holy Qur’an is a book that may be more meaningful for the Western people of the institutional religion, or more clearly, for the people who disdain from the Church’s making religious rulings for the inhuman desires of human beings, than it is for Muslims. You will see that the Holy Qur’an is the main factor that leads a significant amount of these Western Muslims to Islam. Our book presents you the life stories of European and American converts, all of whom are alive today, and their reasons for choosing Islam. Some of the stories consist of interviews conducted in England for a doctoral thesis[1] while others are the life stories that are published in various newspapers and magazines, and accessible on the Internet. Since people were assured that their real names would not be used in this research based on the interview method of social sciences, real names of some of them were not given.
